Hello,

I was wondering about how the date of entry works, for instance. Let's say I get my letter of acceptance, how long exactly do I have?

I know the Date of entry can vary but let's say I get the letter in September 2016 how long do I have to enter Canada before it is void? Is it exactly one year so Septemeber 2017?

Also does the time of which I'm not in canada count towards the 2 Year IEC? So let's say I got accepted August 2016 and I don't enter until March 2017 (If I have a year to enter Canada) will the time between August and March count towards my two years?

Thank you!

asuming you are referring to the IEC program your port of entry letter will have an expiry/enter by date on it usually 12 months out from date of issue.

Your IEC permit starts when you land in Canada and you are issued the actual work permit. The period in your example August 2016 thru March 2017 does not count, the time only starts when you land and activate in Canada.

In your example if issued Sept 2016 you must land by probably end August 2017 but dates will be on the letter as said usually 12 months validity which you must present to CBSA along with proof of 2500 cdn plus the 2 years insurance. The latter is important as any less your permit will only be issued for the term of your insurance, and is not extendable.
