Sorry for so many posts lately. My brain is starting to hurt from all of these tedious, wordy forms and guides.

So here is my question. While my wife and I were still in Korea, she got the documents that CIC requires translated and notarized. But here is our problem: we only have one of each document. What happens if CIC loses these documents or asks us to send them again at a later date?

For example, we have our Korean Marriage Certificate and attached to it is a translation of the document and the notary's seal/information (4 pages total). Is it acceptable to photocopy this document and send that photocopy with our application?

This wouldn't be a notarized copy, but a photocopy of a notarized copy. I'm just worried that if these documents somehow get lost that we won't be able to replace them.

I hope this question makes sense and someone can help us out here.

You need to get a certified copy of your original document. Translation should be done of the certified copy. The notarized translated document (original), the certified copy(of the original document) and an affidavit (original) from the translator needs to be sent to CIC. You don’t need to send any original documents unless specified in the country specific requirement. If they are asking for original documents then you don’t have any other option but to send them. If you are not able to provide any document wether original or copy you need to provide a detailed explanation of the reason.

Yes, this is exactly what we have. My question is can we scan these documents and send a scanned copy of them? I don't want our documents getting "lost" by CIC and have them ask us to send it again.

Also, if my wife is applying for an Open Work Permit alongside her PR application, do we need to send two notarized copies of our marriage certificate?

When I applied for my PR few years ago I did the same mistake of sending the copy of the notarized documents. After I submitted the package I recongnized the mistake. Immediately I dispatched the original notarized documents and called CIC to include my additional documents with my initial package. Luckily my package was about to be reviewed and they included my additional documents. You will need to send notarized documents and not the photocopies of them. Don’t worry about CIC loosing them. Please make a photo copy of all the documents which you are sending for your records.
