Hi everyone,

I am writing on behalf of my friend.

She would like to know the following. In case she submits her taxes for the past years when she was not present in Canada (but held pr status), will Canada Revenue send this information to Canada Immigration? She is worried that if she submits her old taxes, Canada Immigration will find out she did not meet the criteria of maintaining PR status due to she was not present in Canada then.
Please share your thoughts and experience.

Thank you!

So assume your friend has determined her residency for tax purposes regardless whether she met the residency obligation or not. Just being a PR and whether or not being tax resident are two different things.

Others can comment but do not think submitting taxes alone would feedback from CRA to IRCC whereas maybe the other direction IRCC checking CRA submissions as part of PR residency status validation should she apply to renew PR card or apply for a PRTD could maybe happen. This is only a personal view by the way and not based on any inside information.
