Hi, Quick query, Question 9C asks if you have lived outside Canada in the eligibility period (5 years) which I have, prior to gaining my 1095 days for application.

The CIT0177 form that it guides you to fill out is only applicable to those who wish to use these days outside Canada towards there 1095 citizenship days quota. Can I answer No to 9C and it not effect my application?

Thanks,

I don't know if answering no has an effect or not.
Until IRCC decides to update the question 9C wording, and put something like "did you live outside Canada as a crown servant during your eligibility period?", If you want to be safe, answer yes, fill that additional form with pretty much n/a everywhere, and sign it.
Some people in the forum even add an explanation letter to CIT0177 stating that they are not claiming any day outside the coutry.

I called the call center regarding this question. The agent told me to put yes for living outside of Canada and to write Not Applicable where it says to fill out the form for crown servants.

Also, write a letter of explanation with your application. Tell them you lived outside of Canada but that form doesn't apply to you. You or your family weren't crown servants and you don't wish to claim any days towards citizenship eligibility from that period.

Edit to add: don't ever answer no if your case is yes just because of a weird question like this. The greatest piece of advice I can give you to avoid misunderstandings when dealing with IRCC is to always write a letter of explanation if your situation doesn't fit with the standard questions. Never let them guess what your situation is. I think I had about 5 letters of explanation attached to my application.

if you answer "yes", you MUST send a form CIT0177 even if it is blank with N/A in all fields.
We have several cases here in the forum posted that the application was returned because it was missed.

I have a question regarding 9c and eligibility period
I understand the eligibility period is 4 yrs and has nothing to do with the 1095 days .It is 4 yrs prior to date of ciizenship application. For Q9c apart from 1095 days in Canada, do we have to say yes for the time before landing in Canada? Before landing we were all in a different country .hence shouldnt we say yes to Q9c?

That's not true, before "landing" as an immigrant (which means going through a port of entry with your PR Visa and getting co-PR) I had been living in Canada for 3 years, not in my home country or anywhere else. I marked no to that question, I am sure many others did too.

You should mark Yes (you did live somewhere else), then fill out form CIT0177 as N/A (because you were not a crown server).

Cheers,
