Hi members,
I have a query regarding my eligibility on claiming the tax paid on tuition. I came to Canada in 2014 as a student and didn't have a SIN number back then and consequently I didn't file any taxes for the year 2014-2015. I got my SIN number the first time when I got my work permit in 2016 and filed the taxes for year 2016 and onwards. In the year 2014-2015, I was an international student without SIN and paid $38000 in tuition. My query is if I'm eligible to claim and get any tuition credits for the tuition I paid? If yes, then how should I go about it? And can I claim it now?
Thanks everyone in advance.

Tuition tax credit should be claimed in the year it was incurred. If you cannot use all the credit , some of the it can be carried forward to claim in a future year. In your case, you should file tax amendments for tax year 2014 and 2015 claiming those tuition. If you have income from 2016 onward, you can amend these tax returns using the carry forward to reduce your tax payable.
