I may have missed it out, but I haven't found a thread on Student Accommodations and Student Fare.

Like the majority , I'm also on the lookout for an update on my trv and student permit application but I have also been looking for discounted airfare and affordable student accommodation.

I regularly check Craiglist , Kijiji etc for 'affordable yet decent accommodation' but to my dismay, it's either too expensive for a student on budget or too far from school or university.

Any recommendations?

Rent is expensive in Canada.
The best way cut off the expenses is to rent a 1 or 2bhk Apartment or condo and share with other college students. But you need to be in Canada for doing all this. Initially for few months find a place from Kijiji or craiglist

airfare will be pretty stable, you'd be lucky to find any very cheap last minute deals.

as for accomodation, i would first consider the transportation options in the city you are moving to. Based on that, you can adjust your living expenses. As an example, Vancouver has the skytrain that can get you from one end of the greater vancouver area to surrounding suburbs in 15-20 minutes. so you can live as far away as surrey (cheap rent) and travel to vancouver in no time (same commute would take an hour or more in car)
