Query on Educational Qualifications for MBA

Hello everyone,

I am planning for an MBA in Canada SEP 2020 intake. I have a query regarding my educational qualification I have now. Please see below my profile:

10th: 8.5 GPA
Inter: Maths, Economics and Commerce: 84.4%
Graduation: BCom Computer Applications: 79.5%

This brings me to 15 years of education and I have seen universities asking for 16 years education.
Can I start studying MCom for 1 year. There are exams conducted by University at the end of each semester and a marks memo is issued. Would it be considered as 1 year given that I would've only completed 1 year of MCom study by Sep 2020. I have read somewhere that if there are end of year/semester exams conducted by University it may be considered.

I have interned for 5 months in an MNC and am currently working as a full time employee for 1 year 4 months now. I will have 2 years of full time work experience by June 2020.

Please advise me. I am based out of Hyderabad. If you have any ideas for 1 year education like a PG diploma(I haven't found any which aren't too expensive), please let me know as well.

Thanks for the quick replies. I did my Bachelors in Commerce computer applications from India. It's a 3 year degree. That is why I'm exploring doing a 1 year PG course or 1 year of MCom(which is a 2 year Master degree).

You really need to speak to the MBA program about their prerequisites. It is not as simple as just adding another 1 year diploma. 4 year degrees tend to be more indepth and advanced versus a 4 year degree. I would make sure that your choice of 1 year degree would be accepted. Maybe a 3 year degree could be accepted as a special cicumstance? Would work experience replace the 1 year? All questions to ask.

No you couldn't use an incomplete degree. Would also not make sense ro pay and study half a master degree. Always best to doublecheck with the MBA program.

Would atrongly discourage those MBA programs. They are expensive and won't lead to the same job opportunities. Canadian employers are usually not aware of these programs. Personally would avois achools like FDU, NYIT, VIU and there are a few others which are dominated by international students.

So it would be better for me as an international student to stick to public universities keeping in mind job opprotunities after study, visas and potentially a PR? and could you suggest some good Universities to consider.
I have been hearing about MSc in Finance in Canada a lot these days. Can you give your insights about this degree?

Apart from Educational qualifications, work experience, GMAT and IELTS scores; do the universities need/check for something else? possible as a preferred qualifications?

There are lots of universities. Look at the rankings that are published. Consultants tend to recommend the same universities because they are easier to gain admission or they receive payments from the school. MBAs are expensive and it does make a difference to employers if you go to a well known univeristy. There are the top 5 MBA programs where employers actively recruit from more than others. If you aren't looking at the top 5 I would consider an MBA program wirh a co-op option since that would give you Canadian work experience. There are only a few schools where I would definitely stay away from.
