Hello

I'm stuck on what to exactly write for my wife's homemaker entry under 6F. In the past 4 years my wife was a student then a homemaker, she has never worked while here. I know that in 6f it states "If you were not employed(i.e. you were unemployed, retired, homemaker, etc) you must indicate the reason for being unemployed and confirm the dates of your unemployment under "Work/Education" and indicate the time period. do not exclude any period of time during the past four (4) years".

Does this seem correct or is it not needed?

From To Work/Education Employer or school attended
2011-06 2011-09 2011-6-1 to 2011-9-2 homemaker
2011-04 2011-06 ESL classes school attended
2011-02 2011-04 2011-2-28 to 2011-4-4 homemaker
2011-01 2011-02 ESL classes school attended

Thank you

i think in work/education you write "homemaker" and in next column is "N/A" coz for homemaking you dont have employer or school...rest looks good.

Thank you for the reply. what confused me was their wording, they made it seem like being a homemaker was considered as being unemployed and therefore it needs to follow the unemployment format where you need to confirm the dates under the "Work/Education" column. The call center was no help as they confused it even more.

You do not need to specify the exact dates of unemployment. Good if you can - but not required since you're already mentioning the year/month in the "To" and "From" columns.

Please check the citizenship application form. It states to specify the exact dates when unemployed.

Thanks, I meant for that to be a filler in this example :p we have filled out the school name

Edit - one other thing, would it be better to have homemaker listed during the time of the classes as well since she technically was a homemaker and studying at the same time or does Canada Immigration just count either employment type date or education date at a time and no overlap?

If she was attending the classes at the institute, just mention that she was studying

When she was neither studying nor working and just doing homemaker stuff then mention her as a homemaker.

You may use homemaker and studying both in case she was doing both.
Make sure you document it according to your documentary proof that you have.

Technically, when the person is unemployed and not studying and if the person is homemaker only, then she can specify as a homemaker.

If the person is not employed, not studying, not a homemaker, then the person should specify the reason of being unemployed.

Don't worry, this should not be a reason to return as long as you have mentioned the information., However, application processing time may increase and they might ask you for additional documents etc.

Ideally you should have specified the exact dates when you were a homemaker/unemployed.

Isn't that the right thing to do? What's your Q?

The following example can be used if you were unemployed:

From To Work/Education Employer or school attended
yyyy-mm yyyy-mm yyyy-mm-dd to yyyy-mm-dd Looking for a job/vacation from job
(provide exact dates) (above mentioned are just the examples, you are the best judge to write why were you unemployed)

If you were homemaker use the following:

From To Work/Education Employer or school attended
yyyy-mm yyyy-mm yyyy-mm-dd to yyyy-mm-dd Homemaker

If you fill application form in PDF viewer, you have enough space to type.
