Protected Person timeline after Less Complex File Review - Afghanistan claimant

Hello everyone,
I’m hoping to hear from people who have gone through a Less Complex File Review and can share their real timelines, especially Afghan claimants.

Here are my details:

• Country of origin: Afghanistan
• Refugee claim filed: June 16, 2025
• IRCC eligibility interview: Early July 03, 2025
• Security/background checks: Completed
• Less Complex File Review request received: November 04, 2025
• Deadline to respond: November 27, 2025
• Less Complex File Review submitted: November 27, 2025
• Documents submitted: Full personal narrative, supporting evidence, country conditions, and explanations as requested

My lawyer has advised that my case is considered straightforward and that decisions after Less Complex File Review are usually made in weeks, not months, but I would really appreciate hearing from people who have already gone through this stage.

My questions:

1. How long after submitting the Less Complex File Review did you receive a decision?
2. Did you receive the decision by mail or online first?
3. After becoming a Protected Person, how long did it take you to apply for and receive the Refugee Travel Document?

Any shared timelines or experiences would be very helpful.

I am also from Afghanistan. I filled my claim in October 2024. It was referred to IRB in November. They sent an email to my lawyer and said that my application was eligible for file review process (i.e. less complex). They also asked for some documents, which I sent.

Still my application has not been finalized due to the background check pending.

Please let me know if you got your decision.

May I ask when did you receive the less complex and when was your FESS completed?
My time line is very similar.
BOC submitted on November 2024 and received a less complex stream on October 2025 and still waiting for the FESS to be completed.

I received it on August 2025. And sent the required docs on late August. So it took 6 months to get the decision. My security check was completed on February 13 2026.

My apologies, I don’t know what you mean by FESS? can you tell me what it stands for?

since you received the less complex notice on October so you will most likely get the decision around march or april.
