Hello everyone! I'm in Canada as a temporary resident through a Mexican ETA. Last week, my AOR (Acknowledgement of Receipt) was approved for permanent residency via spousal sponsorship. However, a day before the approval, Canada cancelled all ETAs for Mexicans without study or work permits. What should I provide as proof of temporal residency? My ETA was cancelled, but I have an email stating that I can stay until my permit expires. Any recommendations on how to proceed in this situation?

As far as I'm aware they haven't cancelled validity of visitor status for those that have already arrived, i.e. nothing has changed with respect to your existing 'permission', which is basically leave to enter and reside for up to six months (if they didn't put some other limitation on your visit when you arrived). The ETA being cancelled means you wouldn't be able to return without a visa, is all. (The ETA primarily serves to let you on a plane without a visa)

So if you don't plan to leave - do nothing for now. When you get closer to five months (of six) you'll have to decide whether to request an extension. (I understand not necessary if you apply for the open work permit, which you can do now that you have the AOR - but I'm not sure).

Caveat, I haven't followed the situation that closely, but I think I'd have heard if they cancelled status of those already here and told them they had to leave.

Thank you very much for your response and for taking the time to explain the situation to me. It's a great relief indeed.

If you're a Mexican citizen in Canada seeking proof of temporal residency after the cancellation of your Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), you may need to explore options within Canadian immigration policies. Here are some steps you can consider:

1. **Contact Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)**: Reach out to IRCC for guidance on your specific situation. They can provide information on what documents or procedures are necessary to establish your temporary residency status in Canada.

2. **Legal Assistance**: Consider consulting with an immigration lawyer or a registered immigration consultant. They can provide personalized advice based on your circumstances and assist you with navigating the immigration process effectively.

3. **Documentation**: Gather any documentation that supports your residency in Canada, such as lease agreements, utility bills, employment contracts, or enrollment in educational institutions. These documents can help demonstrate your ties to Canada and support your case for temporary residency.

4. **Application for Extension or Change of Status**: Depending on your situation, you may need to apply for an extension of your temporary residency status or change your immigration status to another category, such as a study permit, work permit, or visitor record. IRCC can provide guidance on the appropriate application process.

5. **Compliance with Immigration Regulations**: Ensure that you comply with all immigration regulations and requirements while you seek to resolve your residency status in Canada. This may include maintaining legal status, attending appointments, and providing requested documentation to immigration authorities.

6. **Keep Records**: Keep records of all communications, applications, and supporting documents related to your residency status in Canada. These records can be valuable for reference and documentation purposes throughout the immigration process.

7. **Stay Informed**: Stay informed about any updates or changes to Canadian immigration policies and procedures that may affect your residency status. IRCC's website and official announcements are reliable sources of information.

Overall, navigating immigration processes can be complex, but seeking guidance from appropriate authorities and professionals can help ensure that you understand your options and take the necessary steps to establish and maintain your residency status in Canada.
