Hi All
I have a public relations consulting business. Since last year May. Prior to that I was a salaried employee.
Please advise what all documents do I need to submit to show my self employed work experience

Will the following work ?

Certificate under Shops and Establishment Act, 1954 (from Delhi Govt)
Contract letter (100 Rupees stamp paper) showing the details of work done for client and signed by both parties
Reference letter from client
TDS certificate of the payment from client

Regards

Thanks in advance

You need at least 3 letters from clients

"if the applicant is self-employed, articles of incorporation or other evidence of business ownership, evidence of self-employment income and documentation from third-party individuals indicating the service provided along with payment details (self-declared main duties or affidavits are not acceptable proof of self-employed work experience)."

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/perm/express/intake-complete.asp

Sorry, it doesn't indicate that 3 are needed, but the above is what is required by CIC

Work contracts will show the relationship you had with your client. Invoices will show the remuneration you received for the work undertaken.

Actually I have a question regarding this one;

I am also planning on including some invoices of sale and contracts along with articles of corporation and etc... I find it quite weird to ask a client (I was the country sole distributor of a product so my clients are all over the country) to write me a reference.... wouldnt the invoice, artciles of corporation, chamber of commerce records and contracts prove the relationship? The client shouldnt be writing references in my opinion... what do you think ?

Thanks in advance!

Your work contract will stipulate what work you are doing for the client (duties), how many hours the work involves (hours of work), what are your charges (remuneration), the dates of contract (start and end dates of work experience). This is what will show CIC that you worked for Client ___ from __ to ___ for ___ hours a week and got paid ____.

The invoice is a supporting document that you need to confirm that it was paid work experience.

Your AoA wont have the duties you performed. It will mention your trading name and nature of work but not specifically the duties performed.

Thank you for the clarification, however this is correct if you are working as a consultant or smt which is hourly rated... but lets say you are a country distributor of a product (in my case) you have big clients, small clients, you have a sales team etc etc.. then the customer cannot say how many hours you have worked for them because theres no such thing as working this many hours for this customer etc... then what do we do :) ?

Since you were selling a product, can the producer or the distributor of the product not give you a letter?

Was this selling of a product multilevel marketing like Amway, etc? If it was multilevel marketing then it will difficult to measure the number of hours worked.

That is actually something I missed! Thank you :) !!! Yes it wasnt Amway but it was a Chemical Company based in Europe... thanks a lot for the advice that was a great help!

+1

Hi, I have a language center and I am considered self employed for the EE application. How will a student of mine prove that I worked 10 hours a day 6 days a week for the business. Most students have lessons 2 or 3 hours a day. Another problem is that it is very difficult to convince the students to make payments in the bank as they are small payments and it is a burden. Can I take references from the teachers I employed, they have contracts and insurances paid. Can I also take references from the accounting company that does my bookings? Thank you a lot

Hi @xpressentry

I have a similar query here. I am self employed, owner of wholesale trading business. Noc 0621. Many of my wholesale clients purchase products and pay. They wouldn't be able to answer how many hours a day I work or all my duties that fall in my noc.

I visit them to their office or shops 2-3 times a year for accounting, feedback on products, and just to maintain harmonious relation.

They are willing to provide references but I have to get the proper wording that suits CIC requirements. Plz guide.

Hi @aahaanbajaj

I know this is a bit of an old question, but I am applying under the same NOC as self-employed and I do both wholesale and retail. Would it be ok if you share how you've tackled the number of hours issue?

Thank you!
