try it if you want and let us know if it worked for you or not.

in my views the funds requirement is clear, you need to have the actual funds and not a bank statement - you are now landing and the immigration officer expects you to settle in your new country. You've passed the point of having a bank statement, rather what you should prove now is that you have enough funds to support your living costs until you find a job in canada.

Hi emamabd,

I am a Canada PR applicant selected through the Quebec Skilled Worker Program. Under this program rules I had to file a Contract with Quebec Immigration showing that I had CAD3016 towards expenses for my first three months in Quebec. I noticed some figures mentioned on the CIC website http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/funds.asp such as CAD11931 for a single person and so on. Do these amounts apply to me since I am an applicant under Quebec selection.
No, these amounts are for applicants under the FSW scheme. As a Quebec skilled worker, you will have to show the funds required by the government of quebec which are much less than the FSW.

Hi All,

I have a question regarding the proof of landing funds vs. the funds indicated in the ITA application.

The landing requirements for one person are determined as $11,086. Having said that, in my ITA application I indicated that I intend to bring $20,000 to Canada. My question is, at landing, am I required to show the funds that I originally indicated in my ITA application ($20,000) or only the amount set according to the proof of landing funds ($11,086)?

The problem is I only have the amount set for the proof of landing, I don’t have the amount I previously set in the ITA application.

Please advise.

You only need the minimum. It's ok to go with $11,086

For landing formalities you only need to show the minimum funds required by cic as the fellow members have suggested.

However in reality, you need to have enough funds to support you until you find appropriate employment in canada. Having enough savings in your account will relieve the financial stress during your job search process.

No, you should bring the full fund which is mentioned in CIC website. They will not accept the bank state from other country.

You are allowed to go 7000USD which is almost equivalent to 9246.30CAD(Per person) other amount you can carry by your own risk. Though the amount is for immigrant only, most of the people carry only 5000USD. Your main target should be enter in Canadian Immigration and pass smoothly.

We landed about a month ago at the Queenston-Lewiston bridge. For a family of 2, we just had $2500 in CAD and the rest in USD bank statements. No issues and crossed over easily. It's safer to carry as much cash as you can as the Credit Card process here is very very slow... And I mean, very slow.

So if you are staying for a few months without a job, then plan in advance and carry some extra cash / bank drafts with you.

You can take the balance in bank drafts or travellers cheques. Why only cash? A bank draft would be much more acceptable than a bank statement.

Hi there,

We are planning to do our first landing in Montreal in March 2016, stay for 2 weeks and return back to our home country. We plan migrate to Montreal by the end of the next year.

As we will only be staying in Quebec for 2 weeks in March 2016, is it mandatory for us to show the proof of funds (for family of 3). Upon landing we will be informing the immigration officer that we will be staying for 2 weeks and then return back permanently later that year.

proof of funds is a requirement to obtain your permanent residency, you need to fulfill this requirement to become a PR. it doesn't matter for how long you plan to stay in your first entry.
