Proof of funds

Hi all,

My husband and I are applying for permanent residence in Canada. He is currently on a work permit in Canada and currently working under NOC 0 and I am in Australia. We are putting me as a primary applicant instead because of my because we are getting a higher score that way due to my experience and education. So we are basically applying under federal skilled worker category.
Since my husband is already working in Canada, do we still need to provide proof of funds because the application is under my name and it’s skilled worker category or will we be exempt from proof of funds.

Yes, if you proceed as planned, you will need to provide proof of funds. The status of the principal applicant (PA) is the only one considered in waiving the POF requirement.

If your husband has already worked for 1 year in Canada in a skilled occupation, he may be better qualified for the PA because (a) Canadian experience, and (b) waiver of proof of funds requirement.

The only other way is for you to have proof of a valid job offer in Canada, for at least one year after becoming a PR.
