if you are doing your initial landing and you don't have an arranged employment, you will need to show the amount stated by CIC - as advised by the colleague above

For QSW following link would be helpful:

" For the period from January 1 to December 31, 2013, single persons must have at least $2,924 at their disposal to meet their basic needs for the first three months following their arrival in Québec."

Only for the first 3 months following your arrival.

You are welcome!!!

You can carry as much money as you want but should not carry more than $10000 in cash (make it DD, traveler's check). You would certainly need it when in Canada until you find a job.

Thanks rockincanada I'll carry most as travellers cheque.
Just last question that, CAD$9621 is sufficient fund to land at Montreal while we are
(2adults and 2 kids) ????
Pls reply..

I am not very sure about housing prices and cost of living for Quebec. If it requires a family of 4 to carry $5185 for 3 months, I would assume that cost of living is less. For rest of the canada, a family of 4 has to carry around $21000 to survive for initial 6 months. To my knowlege, average cost of living for a family of 4 is around $2000 per month, so you should plan accordingly, but if you do not have more than what you mentioned here, then you should bring whatever you have as far as you are meeting criteria for the landing funds.

Follow this link to learn more about cost of living in Quebec.
