Processing times accuracy

Hello,

I hope everyone is doing well.

How accurate are IRCC's processing time estimates?

I applied on July 10th from Japan (not a Japanese citizen) and still waiting for an answer. Back when I applied the processing time was 11 weeks. It has now been 12 weeks since I applied.

I just checked IRCC's processing times and saw that it went from 10 weeks to 2 weeks. Should I be hopeful that they might be speeding things up a bit?

Never trust the calculator. You are not Japanese citizen so may take longer. How are you showing ties to return to Japan? Has immigration checks been completed from all countries you have lived in?

My situation is a bit complicated. I finished my bachelor's and master's in Switzerland and joined my family in Japan. But I'm neither from Japan nor Switzerland.

No, the background check is still in progress.

Background checks take time from country of citizenship and any country you have lived in. Your application has to show ties back to country of citizenship if not PR or Japan by justifying costs with career advancement. All you can do is wait.
