Ok, I had an e-mail from CIC telling me they had received my application on January 14. That was Wednesday March 18th. Today, I am checking to see the processing time, they said they are checking January 19th. In the status of mine, it still says they have received it but I don't have any other words and it's been a week an a half.
My question is, is that normal to happen this way? A friend of mine had another e-mail 2 days after the first e-mail telling him that they have sent his abroad.
I just got concerned and wanted to know if it is normal to take this long before you get another e-mail and also to see them already working on applications received 5 days after they received mine.
Thanks for the input in advance

Remember some applications can take longer to get SA depending on the sponsors situation as there may be additional checks to be made. I would wait a little longer before getting worried. If you are in Canada you can always call the contact centre to see if they can give you a more accurate update.

What could be these additional checks that you've mentioned above?

Well I know for sure they will probably look into my divorce before and things like that. Sometimes it may deoend on where u were born I'm assuming.

If the sponsor has previously sponsored someone and its broken down and the PR has claimed welfare (the sponsor would be liable to pay this back) or the sponsor has been receiving welfare in the recent past. Bankruptcy...etc basically anything on the checklist that might not make them ineligible to sponsor. Application might also be incomplete, lacking signatures, relevant forms which would delay.

Most people I would guess are straightforward but CIC also loses documents, whole applications, mistakes outland applications for inland. I heard a few horror stories on the forum.

One last thing is to make sure you check your junk mail as they generally email the SA and some people have missed it as its gone to their junk mail.

The "working on" applications means they have STARTED processing applications received by that date, not that applications received on that date have been APPROVED.

As bruce said, sometimes it can take a bit longer. I usually tell people to allow a 2-weeks leeway - so if your app was received on the 14th, wait until the website updates to say that they are working on applications from the 28th. Then chase it up. :)

I just called them. She said they sent it abroad 2 days ago and looked good. I just haven't received the confirmation yet. Thanks for the time guys. Really apreciate your input :)
