Hi All,
I am a PhD and currently working as a Postdoctoral researcher and living in Ireland. Originally from Pakistan.
I received work permit through the global stream. Now I am packing to go to Montreal to join the company.
But I have following questions:
1) What is the procedure for applying for PR after my arrival in Montreal?
2) How much time will it take?
3) Despite PhD, do I have to pass some tests to get PR?
4) Is family health checkup etc free in Government Hospitals? Or do I have to take insurance? What about the pregnancy cases, If not free how much approximately it cost?
5) A baby born is by birth Canadian national or not?
6) Total of how many years I need to get a passport from the day I land in Canada?
7) Is it a good idea to leave Ireland for Canada (Any Postdoctoral who left Republic of Ireland or Europe for Canada)?
I shall be thankful for detail answers/guidance.
Regards
Khan

1) Depends how you apply. Since you'll be working in the province of Quebec, you'll need to apply through the Quebec Skilled Worker Program. Detailed information here: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio.../immigrate-canada/quebec-skilled-workers.html
2) I would count on 1-2 years.
3) Yes. You'll need to take a language test, pass a medical.
4) Covered.
5) Canadian citizen if born in Canada.
6) Becoming a permanent resident doesn't give you a Canadian passport. To qualify for a passport, you must live a certain number of years in Canada and then apply for citizenship. Assuming it takes you 1-2 years to get PR, you're looking at around 4-6 years after you arrive before you have a Canadian passport. (How long depends on a few different factors such as how many trips you take outside of Canada.)
7) Personal decision - I can't help with that.

First of All, thank you for your earliest and detailed response.
OK, so it means there is no fast track. And is the language test local or international IELTS or TOEFL.
One more question, what about the baby of age 2 arriving in Canada, after how much time will they get passport_ Or will they get the passport with their parents. And will they get Child benefits as a Canadian child or will they have to wait for that until their parents get PR?
Thanks in advance.
