my husband went in to get his SIN today, and brought his passport and the copy of the COPR that he was given when he landed. the woman at Service Canada refused to give him a SIN because she said the COPR is just a copy rather than the original - but it is the only version he was given. she said he has to wait until his PR card comes in to get his SIN.. but he has a job offer that he can start on Monday if he could get his SIN! has anyone else faced this problem? is it possible he was given the wrong copy when he landed? any advice on what we can do?

Not only possible, but probable that he was given wrong information. I suggest trying another Service Canada office and also contacting the office/location where he landed.

Some Inland applicants have had trouble getting their SIN with just their COPR, but even then they were able to get it by mail, long before the PR Card arrived.

Just wanted to add what when I landed, Inland, I was given my original COPR, along with 4 copies.

The original had a clever security feature; the officer took his yellow highlighter and drew a small triangle on the lower corner of the paper and said "Don't ever give this to anyone, because it's your original!" LOL!

Too stupid.

Weehippie, did your husband actually get a photocopy? My husband's was the original, and he only got this original version(no free copies, heh).

I also just got 1, but just go to another Service Canada office, because they should give him the new SIN number with COPR and passport as proof of identity
