Hi guys,

All my life I've always had OHIP, so not too sure how private insurance companies work here in Canada.

I'm asking on behalf of someone (a foreign citizen) who's currently living here and holding the Post Graduate Work Permit.

1. Are there any private insurance companies here with plans that provide coverage for general health checkups, general blood tests, etc? What are your recommendations?

2. If the answer to the previous question is "no", can you guys please at least recommend good insurance companies/plans? She's 23, generally healthy (sometimes has migraines though), has no allergies.

Thanks!

1. There are - but you end up paying a great deal of money for these policies and the deductibles are often quite high. Generally speaking, you are better off paying for non-emergency care yourself. Look at it from the insurance company's point of view - they aren't going to sell you something that they know up front will lose them money.
2. I don't have recommendations but am sure others will.
