Printing photos - photo stock or paper fine?

Almost all, if not all, are digital photos. We very rarely get them printed and the ones we do have printed are from family. Has anyone has any experience with the format of pictures? Should we try to get them printed somewhere on normal photo paper or can we print them with our printer etc?

We don't have too many pictures since we're both not exactly fans of photos but do have some on some of our trips, our visits, our marriage of course.

I just put our pics on a flash drive and took them to CVS (or anywhere that has the picture printing machines). I put the date of each on the back of the photos. I think it was cheaper than buy the paper and using all that ink.
