Hey everyone

My wife applied to sponsor me 7 months ago. Our timeline is pakistan so 30 months is to be expected.

Im getting a good job oppertunity in the UAE, am i allowed to leave pakistan to work in UAE until the sponsorship comes through?

Will i have to inform the embassy and will this make our process longer?/more chances of delay.

My wife is a canadian citizen and im a pakistani citizen (just incase that helps answer the ques)

Thank u, awaiting your reply

Yes - since she is a citizen, she can leave.

Note: that he's asking about himself, not his wife.

I don't believe it's an issue. You can be wherever you want. Just ensure you update CIC with the correct address for you, and if you are there for more than 6 months, you'll need to get a police certificate.

Here's what the sponsor's guide says: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/3900ETOC.asp
"If I live outside Canada, may I sponsor?

If you are a Canadian citizen, you may sponsor a spouse, a common-law partner or conjugal partner, or a dependent child who has no children of his or her own. However, you must demonstrate that you will live in Canada when the sponsored person becomes a permanent resident.

Note: Permanent residents residing abroad may not sponsor from outside of Canada. Canadian citizens travelling as tourists are not considered to be residing abroad."

It's interesting this question keeps coming up, so I asked my immigration lawyer. She said a permanent resident must be in Canada when they determine whether or not you can sponsor. But I can travel afterwards. She said in my case I have significant ties(employment, etc) to show that I live in Canada and nowhere else so visiting my husband won't be a problem.
A Canadian citizen can be anywhere but has to show proof they intend to reside in Canada when their sponsored spouse is approved.

Again, the OP is asking if he (principal applicant) can be outside the country of residence.
Therefore, the OP is NOT the sponsor.

I know... scylla answered his question. I posted that to help those sponsors(who are permanent residents) and who are worried about travelling outside Canada.

Yup, I think you misunderstood his enquiry.
Neither you nor Scylla answered his question yet.

He is asking if he (the principal applicant) can work outside his country of his residence while going through the sponsorship process.

To OP:

I believe it shouldn't affect your PR application.
You just need to let the embassy know about the change of address so they will be able to contact you if there is any mail correspondence regarding your application.

Also, if by any chance you require to attend an interview, you will need to be able to travel back to the country where your application is being processed.

Thanks everyone :)
