Hi everyone,
I need clarification regarding the Preview Score tool in my Express Entry PR application.

My original CRS score when I received the ITA under the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program was 472. At that time, I did not have any eligible Canadian work experience, and I am not trying to claim points for Canadian experience now.

However, when I use the Preview My Score tool inside my PR application, my CRS score has increased to 507. The system seems to be counting my Canadian work history as if I have completed 1 year of work, but I actually have only 11 months of Canadian experience:

  • I worked part-time during my studies from February 2024 to January 2025
  • I started working full-time only from January 2025 until now (December 2025)
I do not meet the 12-month/1,560-hour requirement for Canadian experience, and I do not want to claim points for it. But the system automatically adds Canadian work experience points and increases my CRS score, and I cannot find any option in the Work History section to disable or indicate that I am not claiming this experience for CRS points.

My question is:
Why is the system automatically counting my Canadian work experience and increasing my CRS score, even though I do not meet the 12-month requirement and do not want to claim these points? Is this a system glitch? And how should I correctly reflect my work history so that my CRS matches the score in my ITA?

It's a known fact that the work experience points are updated a month sooner, so it is up to you to make sure you have enough work hours for any work experience. The system is adding that to your score because you have listed this experience in the work history section of your application. If you are not claiming points for this or any other work experience, then you can add it to the personal history section of the profile, otherwise you will even be asked for a reference letter as well.

Just my thoughts though, maybe do some more research yourself or wait for other more experienced users to reply. Good luck!

You can exclude your Canadian work exp altogether and if you still meet the minimum CRS cutoff, you are good to go. BUT BUT BUT....I don't advise doing so.

Here's the thing, you remove the work exp and either:
1. IRCC calculates your CRS and finds everything meeting the A11.2 criteria (eligibility met) without the Canadian work exp
2. IRCC finds something wrong and deducts a few points from your application, making you ineligible.

#2 is why I insist you add the Canadian work exp.

The way to add this would be to wait for another month before submitting your application - till the time you complete 1 year. Get the updated docs to support this employment duration and then hit submit your application against this ITA (obviously before it expires).

IRCC awards 1 year exp 1-2 months in advanced as they understand that you've enough time to get through the remaining 1-2 months of exp before your ITA expires and you'll rightfully be able to claim those points. Go with adding the Canadian work exp - adds more cushion to your application.
