Hi guys

Hoping I can get an answer here. I am on a 6 months visa and I arrived in Canada on July 2018. I got pregnant here and my boy friend is a Canadian citizen. I am just wondering am I eligible to use his health benefit to cover some of the cost of giving birth? Or do we have to pay everything outta our own pocket? Or is there anything we can do to help cover all if not some of the cost?

hi I am currently in Toronto Ontario
You'll need to pay for all of the costs related to the pregnancy (in addition to the birth) out of your own pocket. You cannot use your boyfriend's OHIP coverage and it's too late to get any sort of private health care coverage to cover these medical costs. I would make sure you have at least $10K set aside. Be aware that costs can be substantially higher if there are any complications. If these expenses are too high for the two of you to manage, then the best option is to return to your home country and give birth to the child there. Good luck.

Would reserve 20K for a c-section although it could be slightly less. It will take approx a year to sponsor you after you submit the paperwork.

The answer is no. Simply because you will not have enough time.

You are in 6th month - that is 2-3 months left.
Lets say that you can marry tomorrow.
Spousal sponsorship (even if you are lucky) takes at least 6 months, and normally app. 12 months. (but for inland applicants it can be a bit longer).
And you have no way what so ever to rush it.
Then you need to do your landing (or you will be asked to do it by appointment).
And after that only you can ask for OIHP card.
So because human pregnancy is not like one of elephant (18 months), one can safely say that you will either pay for your delivery in Canada or you have to return to country of your origin.

Good luck

As explained above, not enough time. Answer is still no unfortunately. Even if you're only three months pregnant, you won't have OHIP coverage in time for the birth.
