PR Visa but common law partner and I have broken up

Hi all,

I wonder if you can assist me with this: my Common Law partner and I have broken up after receiving our PR Visa. He is the main applicant and I now need to notify the CIC of the change in relationship.

How will this affect both of us? I assume that I will be removed from the application with him being the main applicant and am worried I lose PR Status.

Does anyone know of the process of this or what will happen?

Have you already landed in Canada? If so - then you will not lose your PR status. If you have not yet landed in Canada - then breaking up with your common law partner means the PR visa you have is no longer valid and you are no longer entitled to PR status in Canada. If you still wish to immigrate - you will have to apply on your own.
