Hi
I have a question, if you have applied for PR Card renewal and traveled out of Canada. While you are coming back with the existing PR Card and your new Card is also received. Can you travel with existing card with you? Some people saying that if you got your renewed card then your old card will not be valid even though it is still not expired. Appreciate clarification if some one has accurate information.

1. Once the new card is issued, the old one is cancelled.

Hi @PMM and @scylla :

Wish you have answer for this:

If you have been a resident of Canada and working for a Canadian company, even if you travel outside the country for a while lets say 2 or 3 weeks, can we still count those days towards our PR renewal or Citizenship days?? I read this here in below link. so just wanted to confirm. It says "may count" so not sure.

Thanks

You should assume that you will not be able to count this time.

Generally time outside of Canada can only be counted if you are assigned to a temporary role (e.g. 1 year) abroad by your Canadian company.

To play it safe, do not count business trips outside of Canada and make sure you have enough residency days without them. Most likely IRCC will not allow you to count this time.

thanks @scylla for your response. I did not get this?

"Most likely IRCC will not allow you to count this time." when you say this time , are you saying because of pandemic or generally in this scenario??

Generally - nothing to do with the pandemic. The rules regarding RO haven't changed at all due to the pandemic. It's the same now as it was before. Generally speaking, the conditions for being able to claim time outside of Canada require you to be transferred by your company to a role outside of Canada for a temporary period of time (e.g. 1-2 years) and with the intent to relocate back to a job with that same company in Canada after the temporary assignment is done. Business travel doesn't generally meet these requirements.
