Hi,
My PR Expiry date is 11 mar 2014.
I landed in canada on 27 feb 2009 and went back to india on 28 july 2009, again i came back to Canada on 22 july 2010, again i left canada on 18 jan 2011 and was back on 15 feb 2011....Pls help me out how many more days i need to be in canada to maintain the PR status.

PLs. Help

Both the day of arrival and departure count for PR so first you stayed for 152 days and then for 209 days so combined 361 days. You need at least 730 days in each 5 year period so before your landing anniversary on Feb 27 2014, you need at least another 369 days in Canada. Also be aware that you can only apply to renew your PR card from within Canada and that it is a rolling 5 year period so once you reach your landing anniversary, the time you stayed in Canada right after your landing will start to move outside the 5 year window.

thanks Leon.....for the help...so it does noy make any difference i am in or out of Canada in those 5 years but i need to complete 730 days in those 5 years....am i correct.

Yes, you need to complete 730 days in Canada or more in each rolling 5 year period after landing as a PR.

You must be in Canada to be able to renew your PR card.

The 5 year window considered for your renewal application is always the 5 years back in time from the date of your application to renew.

Thanks Leon... I have some question related to Spousal immigration can i ask you in this Forum.Pls. advice

May I suggest you send him a private message or post a new thread about your spousal immigration question in the Family Class folder. It is a very active folder and you'll get lots of great input and advice.

Hi, I've landed in Jun2009 and I got my PR but I plan to move permanently in Jun2011 so that I have time to accumulate 730 days to retain my PR which I understand very well. However, I recently met people who lived in Canada for 10 years and got the Canadian passport already and told me that I must visit Canada every 6 month to retain my PR and that if I lived 180 days outside Canada in any given year, I'd loose my PR. They talked to me with extreme confidence that in Toronto airport, they wouldn't let me in and would cancel my PR and have to re apply again because I lived outside Canada for 2 years. Is this correct?. Another question is I already established a bank account but how much I can transfer into it? I was also told I couldn't transfer more than CAD10,000 into my account or enter CAD10,000 in cash to Canada before declaring them. Is this correct and if yes, how can I declare the wire transfer? Many thanks.

sorry, i meant my question to be a new post. fist time using the site. many thanks for your understanding. but if i can get an answer to my questions, i'll be very grateful.

It is not correct. Those used to be the rules back in 2002 and changed sometime in 2003 so now you can live outside of Canada up to 3 years in every 5. There is no 6 month rule any more. If these people would like to argue that, ask them to go to the CIC website and find for you the link where it says 6 months. They will not be able to because there isn't one.

I am not aware that there is a limit for wire transfers. If you are bringing $10,000 or more in cash into Canada on your person, you need to notify customs, see http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/pub/bsf5052-eng.html There are also numbers on there to call if you want to ask them about wire transfers.

Hi Mona M,

I know for sure you need to have 730 days in 5yrs to save your PR Status. But not sure about 6 month thing because even i came back after 1 yr but nobody stopped me at Toronto airport.Regarding money if you have equal or more than that you have written u need to declare.may be somebody else can put more light on this.

Mona,

Usually banks will declare the amounts you wired to the Revenue agency. You would have to check the daily wire transfer limits with your bank.
