Hi all,

Hoping someone can help me with the following.

I currently live and work in Canada as a PR.
My work require me to get a working visa for Chile. I will also be placed on my company's Chilean payroll instead of company's Canadian payroll (for tax reasons). However i will still be paid in Canadian dollars into my Canadian bank account.

I will only be doing week-long trips every couple of months, so I will still satisfy the residency requirement of Canada.

Does anyone see any other issues this may cause me regarding PR status in Canada? something i am not thinking about?

The Chilean working visa will arranged with my UK passport, so in effect I can't see how Canada will even know about it??

thanks all.

As long as you comply with the PR Residency Obligation, who you work for or where is of little or no concern to IRCC, Obviously it is easier to prove compliance by work specifically located in Canada, but occasional assignments abroad should not raise any concerns at all.

The arrangement appears a bit strange but I do not know much about this kind of assignment.

As long as you comply with Canadian tax laws, properly reporting and paying taxes as a resident, CRA is happy as well.

Obviously, the UK and Chile respectively govern what effect this may have on required tax filings or payments for those countries.

One week abroad out of eight should impose no serious risk in meeting the PR RO.
