Hi
I was wondering if someone could give me some advice. The situation is that I landed in May 2011 then left after 1 month, I arrived again in Feb 2015, was interviewed by Immigration and allowed to enter without any need to appeal. My PR card expires July 2016 by which time i will not have done the required 730 days however this was detailed and explained to me by immigration but based on my disclosure he was happy for us to enter. My question is when should we apply to renew our cards, in July when they expire or the following Feb when i have completed the 730 days?

Many thanks for your help.

You have to wait until next February whe you have completed 730 days.

thank you, i appreciate your reply :)

I assume that if we travel outside of Canada before next Feb this will cause us issues, ie a vacation to the states for two weeks? Also I assume we can't travel with expired PR cards especially with the new rules that come in from March. Would you just stay put until next Feb?

Thanks again.

It would be safer to stay put until you have your 730 days in Canada in Feb 2017. If you travel, even if you travel now while your PR card is still valid, you risk that you could get reported when you enter Canada again. If you stay put and don't apply for anything from immigration, you will not have a problem when you apply to renew your PR card after you have your 730 days.
