Hi All, I hope someone can share how they handled a similar situation. I have already spoken to IRCC on the phone, unfortunately, as often the case, they could not give me a definite answer.
Here is my situation; PR status since 2009 - 2nd renewal coming up. Card expires Feb2nd, 2020. Before then I have two trips; Oct8-21 Germany and Jan20-31st Peru. Current processing time is 20 days.
Here are my concerns; if I submit the application before we go to Germany, I am worried that as soon as they receive and start working on it - that they will invalidate my current card in the system - and that may coincide with me being in Germany. I would then not be able to get back home to Canada. The second option is to renew the card as soon as we are back from Germany; my concern is that by then the processing times have gone up and it might be very tight to get the card before Jan20th. The third option; don't worry about anything and just go on both trips and then renew. Concern; if anything at all happens that delays my return past Feb2nd, my card is expired and I am stuck in Peru.
What do you consider would be the best to do??
By the way, IRCC suggested to apply and add a letter stating that I may be out of the country when they issue the new card and would not be able to pick it up until Oct22nd. Not sure I can trust this advice - because he could not tell me for sure this would work.
