I hear so many posts with people waiting years and years for their PR. I'm sure people who typically have their PR relatively soon don't post in forums.

My wife is an American Citizen, I'm Canadian. She married me here in Canada and she turned in her PR papers and my sponsorship papers in mid June 2010.

She has 3 children who live with their father in the US. Her children all want to live with her here but she may need to fight for physical custody if he puts up a fight, she has joint legal custody. She cannot work in Canada until she gets her PR and work Visa and is only here with her Visitors Visa. She wants also to go back to school so she can earn a degree for a higher paying job in her chosen profession.

Is there anything that flags the process to speed it up? Some applications take a great deal less time over others. Her children do NOT want to wait years before they can come live with their mother.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sounds like you have several issues.

First is child custody, which is separate from immigration. This is something that will have to be sorted out legally in the States.
Legally she can NOT bring minor children even for a visit without written approval from both parents. In most cases it's easier for the unattached spouse (without minor children) to move. In other-words it might be easier for you to move to the States.

As far as time lines regarding a parent with children I don't know. Others with more experience can answer.

As far as working, she will have to have a work permit. You can wait for the PR, or apply for a work permit which will require an LMO,
