Hi everyone!!!

My parents are landed immigrants. Mother lives in Canada permanently and will not have problems with renewal. However, dad has to stay back home and care for 85yo grandmother, most probably he wont be able to meet necessary 730 days for PR renewal. Please let me know if there is any option / solution for him.

Thanks, any comments appreciated!

Whenever he is ready to go back for good, if his PR card is still valid, he should enter and stay for a full 2 years before trying to renew it. That way, he meets the residency requirements again and wont have a problem.

If his PR card is expired, he can apply for a PR travel document at the Canadian embassy in his home country. He should list his H&C grounds for being unable to reside in Canada and show proof of having taken care of his ageing mother. A letter from her doctor might be good as proof. If he gets the travel document, he can return to Canada. If it is refused, he will lose his PR but your mother can sponsor him again.
