Hi All,
As per the CIC website, in order to maintain one's PR status, one has to stay a minimum of 730 days within a period of 5 years. My question is - what day is considered to be the first day of your 5 year period?
1. Is it the date on which you did your landing? (I did a soft landing, with a plan to return to my home country for some time before moving to Canada for good).
2. Or is the expiration date mentioned on your PR Card considered to be the last day of your 5 year period?
I landed in October 2016. So based on that, the 5 year period will end in October 2021. However, the PR card expires in Jan 2022. So is the 5 year period counted till Jan 2022 or October 2021?

Appreciate your help!

RO begins on the date you land. The date on the PR card is irrelevant. You would need to return to Canada before October 2019 to meet ro if you left immediately after landing. If you left today having been in Canada since October 2016, you would need to be back sometime around March 2021 to meet RO.

Also keep in mind that after the first 5 years, the 2/5 requirement is rolling, meaning you need to be in compliance at any time you encounter CBSA or IRCC.
