Hi all,
Can anyone explain the following please?
Its taken from the CIC website at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5289ETOC.asp

How long is a permanent resident visa valid?
A permanent resident visa is issued for a period not extending beyond the earliest expiry date of the sponsored person’s (and any family members):

  • medical results
  • passports

Important information: Once issued, permanent resident visas can’t be extended. If applicants don’t use the visas within their validity period, they must re-apply for immigration to Canada. Their sponsor will have to submit a new sponsorship application and pay new processing fees.

On first reading, i took this to mean that your PR is valid only as long as your existing passport (!) which cant be correct surely - so does this relate to the time you have to enter Canada after you have been granted PR?

What would happen when my UK passport expires after 10 years and I need to get a new one to travel? Would i be ok to get back into canada on a different passport as long as i had a PR card?

Thank you :-)

Overanalization. This validity is for the initial visa one has to use upon entry.

That's what i suspected and wanted to double check - thanks for your help :-)
(I'm an analyst, so over-analisation in everything is a frequent hazard, lol.)
