PR landing-return without SIN

Hey all,

I will be doing a soft landing on a weekend and then returning back to the US this month.It look like most of the SIN offices are open only on the weekdays.Once I get the PR card can I return and apply for my SIN?
Is it mandatory to get the SIN the first time you land?

No. It's not mandatory. Please note that Service Canada might ask for PR cards as proof if you apply for SIN 12 months after soft landing.

Thanks!..I will not wait 12 months.I will apply for my SIN right after I get my PR card in hand and can travel back.

You can actually apply for your SIN online after you get your PR card but need to make sure to have a Canadian address to use.

In this case one will need to send original COPR by mail to Canada. Too risky.
