Hey all,

so I got a ticket while driving through NY for failing to move over for stopped police car (1144-aa), it was a difficult situation at night and I did my best to handle it, sadly the police officer didn't think so. I plan to contest the ticket.

Now what would be the implications for me as a PR if convicted? Could I lose my PR status? Could I become criminally inadmissable to Canada? Any idea what's the Canadian equivalent of this traffic violation? Anyone got experience with that?

Thank you, any insight is really appreciated.

No implications for your PR status.

The thing that throws me off is that many lawyers' websites mention that "careless driving" can be a reason for inadmissibility. IRCC's own website lists "dangerous driving" as reason for inadmissibility but nowhere I can find what exactly those are and if this "failed due care" falls into that.

Inadmissibility is only a factor pre-PR. You are already a permanent resident - correct? So again, not an issue.

Thanks scylla, it's really appreciated. I'm indeed a PR. So basically a PR can commit an offence but it wouldn't affect one's PR status at all?

Do you think it could pose a problem when applying for citizenship and/or PR renewal?

Thanks again for any insights.

How many times do you need to hear scylla say the same thing? Not an issue.
