Hi , I am permanant resident of canada and so is my husband. I want to extend my PR as I am in my home COUNTRY due to my old sick mother. I am running short of time . I just completed 10 months out of 24 (extension of PR , not citizenship). I want to extend my PR TIME / as I guess I wont be able to complete my 24 months in Canada . Any advise or suggestion? Is it possible by hiring a lawyer? Regards

There are no extensions. Keep in mind it’s only the card that expires, not your status. You won’t be able to to renew your card from outside of Canada. If you are outside of Canada when it expires, you will need to apply for a PRTD to get back.

You cannot extend your PR status. When you are ready to return to Canada, if your PR card is no longer valid, you will need to apply for a PR travel document with H&C reasons (i.e. taking care of your ill mother).
