Dear All,

By next month, I will reach 1 year of Canadian work experience under the CEC class, as Express Entry only counts the month. As a result, my score is expected to increase to around 520 points in the coming week.

However, my exact 1-year Canadian work experience will be completed on November 26, 2024. If I receive an invitation to apply for PR in the October draw, would I be eligible to submit my application immediately, or would it be better to wait until November 26 before submitting my PR application?

Thank you for your guidance!

Hi, unfortunately you'll have to wait until you complete your 1 year of experience. My friend was in a similar situation and her lawyer asked her to decline the ITA because there was a very high possibility that her case will be refused because at the time when the ITA was submitted she still had a few days left before officially completing the 1 year mark. I know this can be frustrating, but would be safer in the future. Best of luck.

Hi Yasw,

You mentioned I have to decline the ITA. My 1 year canadian experience is going to be completed on 26 th November. For example, i get the ITA on 15th october then, i will still have 60 day window to submit right?
I mean If i accept the invitation then I can submit near the end of deadline date. .
Can you please give your opinion on that please?

You would be given 60 days to submit your documents after you get the ITA, you are totally right, however, your eligibility is calculated based on the day you were invited not on the day you submitted your application/documents. Meaning, you were invited on 16th of Oct, based on a set of calculated points that claims that you already met the 1 year work experience criteria, but in reality you actually didn't, you still had 1 week to go (for example), so you claimed something that wasn't true, hence got invited based on a set of criteria that you haven't met. Got it?
Again, this is based on my understanding and what I've seen/witnessed with my friend. I am not a lawyer or a consultant and I would HIGHLY recommend talking to someone professional :)
