Hi all,

My situation is that my common in law partner and I (I am the sponsor) have been given a visa and we need to go to canada before December. We are only going to be able to go for one week next month (for work related reasons, unfinished contracts we cannot be there for a longer time period) until we travel back to Canada next summer- Therefore I need to know a couple of things:

With regards to the PR Card, when we land in Canada the Immigration Officer is going to ask us about an address to send the pr card but is it true that if we have a return ticket we do not get the PR card sent at all?

If this is the case, when would we get the PR card??

thanks very much

Give them a family member or trusted friend's address to send the PR card to. When it arrives, your friend can send it on to you. CIC won't mail it outside Canada but there's nothing wrong with having a friend do so.

If you have no address at all, and nobody who could receive it for you, they can hold it for 6 months. If you don't give them an address by then, you lose the "first PR card free" opportunity and have to apply for a new one later.

If your partner is not from a visa-exempt country, you'll either need to get the PR card sent to you before you return, or alternatively apply for a Travel Document to return to Canada next summer.
