Hi everyone,

I am currently outside Canada and my PR card will expire in about 3 weeks. I still physically have the card with me, and it is not lost, stolen, or damaged.

I am applying for a PRTD to return to Canada, and in the application form (IMM 5444) I see two options:

  1. Apply for a PRTD as I do not have a valid PR card
  2. Apply for a PRTD as my PR card was lost, stolen, or damaged

Since I still have my PR card but it is about to expire soon, which option should I select?

Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Thanks in advance!

Assuming you are planning on travelling after your PR card will have expired, the most accurate response is (1).

You could consider including a Letter of Explanation in your application that explains this situation.
