PR card expired

I am a PR from England ( have been one since 1967) I am travelling to England and my PR card is expired. I have applied for a renewal but it is not done yet. I will only be in England for one week so no time to apply for PRTD. I can prove I have a SIN card, payment stubs, proof of renewal application submitted. Will that be enough to get me on plane back to Canada?

No, it won't. You need either a valid PR card or a valid PRTD to board a plane. Failing that, your other option is to fly to the US and then re-enter Canada through a land border crossing using a private vehicle.
