Hi All,

I've had my PR since July 28th, 2013 and was supposed to be able to apply for my citizenship this past summer but due to the bill (c51 I believe) that was passed I will not be able to apply until mid 2017. I'm currently working for a Canadian corporation (listed on the tsx) out of country and will be traveling for ~8 months this year. Since I'm working for a Canadian company and still living in Canada (Have an apartment, pay Canadian taxes, etc.) do I get credit for this time or am I in danger of dropping my PR or losing this time?

I'd like to get my citizenship as soon as I can and don't want to get screwed on the time I've spent in Canada. Also, is there any news on C51 getting overturned? I've been living in Canada since 1997 but since this bill was passed I get 0 credit for the time I've spent.

Thanks.

Time outside Canada will definitely not count towards qualifying for citizenship. This requires 4 years of physical residency in Canada.

However the time may qualify for PR Residency Obligation, depending on the specific details of the work assignment.
