Could you please explain your situation more? Are you planning on sponsoring another person or are you yourself being sponsored?

If you're the one being sponsored, you would have to go through the PR process before landing.

If you're sponsoring someone else, you need to have landed first before sponsoring them at least.

Landing as an immigrant means that you are a PR. If you are referring to the PR card, the CBSA officer will apply for your first card when you land.

To canuck_in_uk and Decoy24601, thank you for your reply. Indeed my son has already landed in Canada sometime July 2015 . Does it mean that he can already start calculating his stay starting July in relation to applying for Canadian citizenship?
