Hey guys,

my friend is looking to stay in Canada for PR, but is under the points threshold. However, looking at the LMIA page, it says you are LMIA exempt if canada has an IEC agreement with your country (ours does).

Would this give her the extra 50 points? she has been working in the company for over a year.

Thanks!

Your friend would get 50 points only if teh employer is wililgn to provide an offer letter mentioning that th ejob offer woudl be valid for atleast 1 yr after PR is issued.

thanks, do you still get the LMIA valid job offer points if you're exempt from needing LMIA, or just 50?

No,your friend can obtain a work permit without LMIA if canada has an IEC agreement with your country.

If you want to claim the point, her employer has to apply for LMIA.

There are two types of LMIA:
1. To support PR only, the cost is free
2. To obtain work permit, the cost is 1500

Just to give you an overview with what's required in LMIA:
1. The employer has to prove that no Canadian Citizen/Permanent can fill in the position. The employer need to advertise the job at Job Bank and 2 other paid websites for at least 3 months and interview the applicants
2. The job has to meet the median wage for the occupation at the provincial level
