Hello everyone,

I am currently a last year student at Concordia University in Montreal, QC. My study permit will be expired on August 31, 2017, so I assume that I need to apply for my Post-grad work permit before my study permit be expired. However, I still have 3 more classes to take for this summer and probably will complete around August 23. Then it takes at least 2 to 3 weeks for my grades to be released from school, which means I will pass the dead line of my study permit and not be eligible to apply for the Post-grad work permit. Also, as I understand, students who apply for post-grad work permit need to have their diploma or transcript, which shows that they have been graduated. Hence, not only I have a problem with my classes, but also I can not get my certificate before the deadline of the study permit. If any one already had this problem, please let me know how could you solve it. Thank you very much for your help !!!!

You'll have to extend your permit to a later date and then graduate. What is I'd do is, I'll work on the summer. I'll extend the permit to next February /April. I'll take those 3 classes during the fall term and graduate comfortablely in the winter

Yes extend your study permit first otherwise you need to leave canada if you are waiting for you graduation documents from school. Because you cannot stay in canada on expired status .If you have plan to go back to your home country after graduation you could apply post graduation work permit from your local canadian embassy.

We are in the same situation.

What you will have to do is to apply for a SP extension till November. ( So you will need a new CAQ before applying for the extension ).

you will state that you are not planning to take courses during the summer ( For CIC, they consider summer as a break, which means you are free to take summer courses or not ). You can simply state that you will return to your home country for a family visit.

Note that for your CSQ ( Experience Program ) you will need a graduation document, which you get in October. ( According to my University, UdeM!)

Also note that for your PGWP, you will need to have a valid SP in order to apply, and since you will get your graduation certificate in October, you will apply for a PGWP in November just before your SP expires.

Just make sure when you will receive your graduation certificate.
