I don't know... I have a former colleague whose official title is "Research Scientist", even though he's on a termed position. And the university did a LMIA (was called LMO back then) for him...

Postdocs can be officially called "Postdoctoral Fellow", or, at least from what I know in the states, "Postdoctoral Research Associate". The latter is technically a research scientist, so why can't a LMIA be applied for that?

I think it's mostly because the LMIA is not needed in the first place, so they wouldn't wanna go through the trouble. But that's doesn't mean it's impossible...

I am post doc too with foreign and Canadian work experience. IELTS 8.0 average + ECA. My score is currently 459 and probably have some chance to get an ITA. However, I have some other postdoc friends who only score 200+ due to age. I strongly think CIC should gives us at least 200 pts for being LMIA exempt.

I am also in the same boat. How about taking a opinion from Postdoctoral associations and writing a letter to CIC?

Hi friends. I have received an invitation from an employer in Canada for Post doctoral fellow (1 year). I filled the questionnaire in CIC website in different ways but in all of them I am recognized as eligible person to get visitor visa- that is completely wrong. I am pretty sure I need a work permit. If there is anyone applying for post doctoral, please let me know how the should I fill the questionnaire to get the result "work permit is need".
