Hi,

I have the exact same situation. I have been under a Work Permit (Intra-Company Transferee) since 2010 and my work permit is about to expire in December 12, 2012. The company that I'm working for right now will be closing operations in Canada and I have no way to get a permit renewal

I have been looking for a new job but It seems difficult to get the LMO, specially when you are a Systems Engineer like me.

Does anyone know what other options I might have to stay in Canada legally while I wait to get my PR?. I have applied under CEC and already got AOR

Thanks
Hi mmara,

You can apply to 'extend your status as a visitor'. This is not the same as a visitor visa. You basically need a valid reason to stay here while you are unable to work or study. I gave my reason as waiting for my PR and was given the status for 6 months. So if you give your AOR and show them you're waiting you should be able to get it.

Hi ssparkles, when you apply for this extension, do you have to provide proof of funds? I'm aware of the fact that you cannot work during this time, but I was wondering if they ask for any supporting documentation.

Hi IrishinCanada,

If you look at the document checklist in the link below it says you have to provide proof of funds as specified under the category you are applying. (since that one application can be used to apply for a number of things) The last time I applied I did show proof of funds... however this time I'm going to try to but and if I can't then I'll ask my siblings to send me a letter saying they will support me or something like that. I think not sending proof of funds might hinder the process.

However I was unable to find where they say that we 'must' provide this when applying to extend status as a visitor.
