Hi there,

since my wife has been asked for her PPR, I am starting to do a "to do list" before the final date of traveling. Anyways, I was wondering if she only brings her laptop, plus a couple of books and maybe 4-500 dollars, clothing, etc...does she need to fill a paper saying what goods she is importing to Canada?

http://www.cbsa.gc.ca/publications/forms-formulaires/b4a.pdf

Also, she probably won't have anything sent to Canada further more. She only has books, laptops and clothes, was a student until she graduated a couple months ago...

Thank you :)

Yes, she still needs the B4, so far as I understand, so she can bring her personal stuff without needing to pay duties on them. That includes her laptop and other personal effects, and any valuable jewellery. If she isn't shipping anything else to arrive after she lands, she doesn't need the "Goods to Follow" section of the form.

Congratulations on the PPR, btw! ;D

Hi,

The embarkation form distributed in the airplane before landing will be sufficient for her to show the value of her "goods" carried with her. The value of laptop, camera, cell phone, hair styling equipments (if any) are not required to include as they are considered as essential personal items. As you have briefly mentioned her stuff, there is nothing to declare above CAD 50/- totally.
