Police information checks

I would like to sponsor my common-law partner for immigration to Canada. I am a Canadian citizen, born and raised here. A few years ago, I was charged with shoplifting of an inexpensive item. Because the crime was relatively minor, I was allowed to perform community service in exchange for having the charge withdrawn. My understanding is that this information won't shop up on a typical criminal record check, but it will show up on a more detailed police information check. So here are my questions: 1) do I need to provide a police information check (or criminal record check) to be a sponsor, 2) will the immigration department conduct a police information check (or criminal record check) on me, 3) will I have declare this information anywhere in the sponsorship process, and 4) if they do become aware of this information, will it impact my ability to sponsor?

Will it it be a misrepresentation if he didnt disclosed it?
Just answer truthfully on the application, there wont be any issues. You can be arrested and charged 10000 times in Canada, but if there is no conviction - its like nothing ever happen - you can shop in USA, you can sponsor loved ones...life normal.

Thank you for the response.

We have been literal and honestly answered the question 14
"Have you been charged an offence under Act of Parliament punishable by a maximum of at least 10 years?"
We simply answered "no" though the sponsor has been convicted of possession of drugs and had house arrest for 6 months only, this happened 10years ago.
And are willing to explain if ever they will have furthur questions.

The form doesn't actually have any question that ask you if you have any criminal history, as far as I remember.
