About to try and navigate this process and finding a bit confusing. Help from anyone with insight on questions below is much appreciated

- What does the process actually consist of?
-The cic page is fairly vague.
- How long does this usually take?
- Is the 12-16 week delay mentioned on the FBI site accurate?
- Where exactly do we go to take finger prints and where do these get sent?

Thanks!

If you need your record quickly, I'd use a channeler, but I recommend only using the channelers who will mail you the report on tamper proof paper (~ 3 do this). Since CIC says to mail in the report along with all the paperwork, receipts etc for the report. If you have 16 weeks + to wait, then you can send your prints into the FBI and wait for their report.

You need to have your prints taken by a local law enforcement agency. I found this part to be the biggest hassle, since many won't do them for you. Good luck.

is there a new requirement to have them done by law enforcement? i know it's not the only way to get prints done. i got mine done by a technician who did prints for the local board of ed. unless something has changed with the new system, if your local police department won't do it, then look up fingerprint technicians or ask your local board of ed if they have someone who does prints.

If they use a channeler who mails the reports on tamper proof paper, then those channelers require the prints to be done by law enforcement or their approved/specified LiveScan locations. I think it has something to do with the fact that these particular reports are eligible to be sent in for an apostille by the State Dept, if needed.
