Police Clearance from Venezuela

Are you speaking specifically of Venezuela? If not, it could be different for your country. In my case, I sent a scan of my ID card and a scan of a signed letter giving them authorization to get all the documents I needed. There was no need for a thumb print, I guess because they had a copy of my ID card. The letter that was sent back was created by the Department of Justice in Venezuela and didn't have specific format just kind of a "To whom it may concern, this guy has never been in trouble" letter, but with the official seal on it.

Just got confirmation from Berlin to go get this document myself (or rather, have my family get it). However, they did ask me to contact them before I send it.

Tip to all applicants: contact your Visa Office and ask.

If the person at your visa office is nice and honest, they'll tell you to do it yourself, considering how long it takes to do it the "official" way (about six months).

We got an official communication (beyond the email) asking for the Police Clearance as an additional document to be added to our application and to be submitted within the next 2 months.

So I will state again: if you are submitting an application and the applicant has lived in Venezuela for +6 months, regardless of what the CIC website states, ASK your VO if you can obtain and submit the Police Clearance yourself. Bubba's and my husband's case make for good precedents.

Hey SEVEN07

Yeah, the problem is that neither my husband nor I were in Caracas nor are any of our family members, so we had to go through a "gestor" (gotta love centralism  ).

We got it soon enough, could send it and got a response from Berlin quickly (Passport Request and Decision Made).

I know the processing time in Venezuela is insane. We were worried that his file might be sent there (but we were living in The Netherlands at the time so it wasn't).

However, as I mentioned to someone in another post, I have seen a case or two that have been approved much faster. Hopefully this will be true with you. Good luck and keep us posted!

I am in the same situation. I am waiting for the Caracas office to send the Police Clearance. It seems like a black hole at the moment since I can not control and/or make anything to get that paperwork done.

Have you received any update on this? Are you pursuing any strategies? Like going to the Caracas Consulate to request an update?

I am also applying outside Venezuela

Regards
Hi, did you get you app completed yet? I am a Venezuelan living in the US and married to a Canadian Citizen. Applied for spousal immigration in July 2012 and I was wondering if obtaining Police Clearances from Venezuela add a lot of processing time. Thanks!

Hi SEVEN07,

Have you gotten any info on the new changes? Is it possible to use a contact to help?

My husband and I got an email from the Nairobi office saying that they are waiting for my police certificate from Venezuela. Having lived there and knowing how government processes can take forever there I am very worried. Any advice?

Police certificates from Venezuela are taking from 5 to 7 days. If you have someone in Venezuela they can get it for you with proper authorization. Otherwise you will need to use a service provider such as the one suggested by SEVEN.

Hi, This is driving me mad!
Last year the info was that officially the Embassy will contact the Venezuelan authorities and Police certificate will not be necessary.
Today because your question, I'd realized that they change the procedure once again, maybe since they closed the caracas VO.
I'm sorry but if you speaks spanish, I'd recommend you to contact Ms. Laura Collauto, she is been a responsable person here you go the link to her website.

http://www.tramitesenvenezuela.com/site/index.php?option=com_contact&view=contact&id=1&Itemid=194

Do I need to provide a police certificate when applying for permanent residence?
Yes, all applicants aged 18 or older must provide a police certificate.

How do I obtain one?

Police certificate should be requested by writing a letter addressed to the “Viceministro de Seguridad Jurídica del Ministerio del Interior y Justicia” indicating the:

date,
reason for request,
photocopy of your Identity Card, and
applicable fees.

Since police certificates can only be issued from a public authority, you must mention that it is requested by the Canadian Embassy.

That is correct. When we applied for FAM PR the site said they would get it for us. We got a request on Feb 9th from CIC to get it ourselves (and their website was updated on Feb 11). Actually it might be better that way because who knows how long it would take for CIC to get it with all of their red tape.
